T. AP.AR.
Time-based media Arts Practices and Artistic Research.

About

T.AP.AR -or time-based media art practices and artistic research is a  proposed group working with the setup of an alternative educational model around time-based media practices with affective potential. This is meant in a dual sense, both as the production of knowledge that renders new objects around media practice and performances think-able, as well as the networking and discourse-generating gesture of actively linking institutions and practitioners working in these fields in under conditions of co-isolation.

By counter-proposing a dialogue between diverse media art practices and emergent cultures of artistic research  to approaches that frame inter-disciplinarity as staged encounters between discrete disciplines, T.AP.AR seeks to establish affiliations of academics, artists , performers activists and other stakeholders in an expanded creative media-ecology  through the organization of annual working groups on specific topics that , incrementally, introduce 7 practitioners into an open ended directory.

Formats

For its initial iteration, programmed for the period running from 2023 to  2024, T.AP.AR integrates the initial establishment of its elective affinities with practitioners, collectives and institutions into a format of a long open call for co-defining and working around a theme of convergence; that will be pertinent to the research interests of the “ever expanding core of T.AP.AR”.

For the internal workings of the group in these processes, formats like assemblies, lectures, presentations, workshops and other placeholders for exchanging knowledge are encouraged, in ways that are organically perform  T.AP.AR  as an institution itself, producing it as a quasi-subject .

These events are expected to maintain a periodicity
are conceived as infrastructures for mobilising participation towards collectively defining and elaborating upon a subject
(such as performance vs performative practices somatic research, community building ethos, at times confirming and at times questioning the overarching framework of time-based media arts as well)

Outcomes

Although devoted to devising horizontal and inclusive operative structures, T.AP.AR   is inviting to the prospect of establishing a relationship with a chosen expert in the topic that has arisen through its internal deliberations once each annual iteration is nearing its conclusion. This relationship is intended as a means of positioning the outcomes of the working group within existing epistemological systems and may eventually acquire a caring character, such as inviting the person to curate the works, the publications, exhibitions or other outcomes that may be generated.

The convergence of this first iteration of T.AP.AR  and the emergent formations it is projected to assume after a period of exchange of 10 months will be presented into a concluding symposium hosted in one of three institutions active in showcasing contemporary works at the interstice of performing and performance art in Vienna.

Chronicle

T.AP.AR is, as of May 2023,  an instituent practice initiated by the Vienna based  performance artist Dr. Sergio Patricio in collaboration with the cultural actor Anaïs Marketos, progressing towards a transitory /strategic consolidation as an institute. As the inventory of its nuanced network expands, this qualitative state is subject to evolve or dissipate.
